iOS indie developers writing every day about their stuff.

Want to Join?

So you are an independent iOS developer and want to join iDevBlogADay. What do you need to know? Read below:

  • You can join iDevBlogADay if you are involved in iOS development and have a blog where you talk about it. Programming, design, art, marketing, and any related topics are good by our standards as long as they help other developers. We have a wide range of readers, from people just starting to experts, so share your personal experiences and remember no topic is too small.
  • You will be assigned a day of the week, and you will have to write on your own blog on that day every two weeks. If you miss your day, don’t worry about it; you can still publish your post even if is a day or two later, or just wait for your turn to come up again.
  • The whole system is automated. Once you do a one time setup you will be good to go; you don’t need to do anything else for your post to show up. If after publishing in your blog it doesn’t show after a couple of hours, get in touch with @MysteryCoconut.

How do you get started?

  1. Join the iDevAuthors mailing list. This list is used for announcements, and discussion between all the authors about possible topics to write about, sharing drafts, and discuss any ideas to improve iDevBlogADay. Indicate your blog URL and your Twitter name when you join, so we can decide if you comply with the really loose membership requirements above.
  2. If you are approved, say hi and introduce yourself to the rest of the mailing list. You will then receive by email a username and password to use in the iDevBlogADay administration. Read ‘I got an email with username/password… now what?’ for details on how to setup your blog there.
  3. At that point you should be added to the calendar, so check to see when your new post is due. We don’t send you reminders, so keep track of the days :)
  4. Make sure your blog’s RSS or Atom feed supports <category> tags. Most blogging software out there uses these when you tag or add a category or taxonomy to a post. Your feed should also have the whole contents of your posts, not only excerpts.
  5. After that, all the posts on your blog that have the ‘idevblogaday’ category tag (no quotes, any combination of caps like ‘iDevBlogADay’ should work), will be captured by our site. Do NOT use the tag more than once every two weeks, when is your turn. If you are spamming the site by pushing too many posts to it we will terminate your account.
  6. If you want out of iDevBlogADay at any moment, get in contact with @MysteryCoconut.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask in the iDevAuthors list, or email miguel at mysterycoconut.

Notice for our old members

If you were an author in the previous incarnation of the site you may be wondering what’s going on. All the authors and the people in the old waiting list were not automatically added to the new site; you will need to go through the steps above to join again. The good news is since there is no waiting list you will get to write right away. If you have any questions, contact @MysteryCoconut.
